Portland Spa Conference Centre to open October
The Portland Spa Conference and Banqueting Centre is a new, purpose-designed meeting venue opening October 2007 on the southern tip of the Island of Portland in Dorset.
Meeting facilities include the main Portland Spa Executive Presentation Theatre, a 200 raked-seat auditorium for conference presentations, seminars, lectures, demonstrations and training events. Complete with the latest audio visual technology, the Centre has an adjacent registration and refreshment area in the Chesil Gallery plus a choice of catering areas.
The theatre is supported by The Sherborne and Portland Suites, seating 250 and 90 delegates theatre style respectively - both of which will subdivide. The Wessex Suite is an executive boardroom seating 20. The Winterborne Suite on the first floor will accommodate up to 50 delegates theatre style and will also subdivide into smaller units.
Refreshments are served all day in the Cove Lounge and The Spa Restaurant will dine up to 180 delegates. The Garden Courtyard is a secluded outdoor area with decking for informal meetings and delegate breaks. The space can also be used to site a marquee for up to 300 people. Finally, there is free parking for 750 cars.
Associated facilities at The Portland Spa include spa therapy treatments, a health suite with steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, an indoor swimming pool and a fitness club.
A new 4 star hotel is planned for The Portland Spa, which should be operational by late 2008.
Portland is at the heart of the 95 mile long ‘Jurassic Coast’, designated by UNESCO as England’s first Natural World Heritage Site. Linked to the mainland by a road bridge from Chesil Beach, it's four miles from the hotels of Weymouth. Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, based at Portland will host the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.
