London's Metropole Buildings to become hotel
London's Metropole Buildings, the former Government offices on Whitehall, are to be converted into a hotel. The buildings on Northumberland Avenue, once the home of the Metropole Hotel, have been vacant since 2004. The sale is being arranged by the Crown Agents, the buildings owners, and major interest from international hotel groups is anticipated.

The Metropole was built as a hotel in 1883. During the First World War it was requisitioned to provide accommodation for government staff. The Metropole reopened after the War and remained in use as a hotel until 1936 when it was leased by the government in whose hands it has remained ever since.
